2010 my third year on Almyne

Mon, 1 Feb 2010
Off to Llangollen again. Picked Kaia up from her dads and then on to collect Nat and Leanne to take them back to Destiny for a holiday.
A bit of snow on the way up and got stuck at the services for a while so that the staff there could dig out a couple of lorries that had got stuck on the exit road due to ice and snow on the road.
Apart from that a relatively uneventful journey.

Weather not so good, so stayed put for the day, no-one really wants to travel in the rain.
Did manage to get loads of the logs that the tree fellers had given up cut up into manageable sizes. I persuaded a guy on another boat to use his chain saw on them and it was a delight to watch.
I usually put one foot on a log and cut the end off, which works well till the bit of log that is left is too small to fit my foot and the chain saw on it, but too big for the fire.
This guy showed me a whole new approach. He cuts almost through the log from one side leaving just half an inch or so to go and then repeats the process a bit further along the log. This way he still has loads of log to put his foot on when he is getting to the end of the log. Then he turns it over and just snips through the remaining bit. So simple and much safer than my method. Will emulate his method in future.
Scott and Nat then chopped all the short lengths into logs for the fire while I stacked them on top of Destiny. Should save us about three or four bags of coal.

From Hawkesbury Junction to Hinckley, just the odd seven miles so that Nat and Leanne could say that they have been for a trip.

This entry will cover most, if not all, of February.
Where do I start.
We headed off towards Coventry and stopped just short.
Overnight Almyne was raided and my passport, drivers license, credit cards, debit card, cheque book and a whole bunch of other things were stolen.
The ramifications just tumble into each other.
Even with the credit and debit cards stopped, and replaced I can still not hire a car.
We did continue on to Coventry after waiting a couple of days for the police to do their (non important) checks and 'dusting' of Almyne.
The cathedral (well, both the old and the new) were quite impressive, as was the Transport Museum, where they are currently exhibiting the Thrust SSC world land speed record holder, complete with a simulation of the actual record breaking run.
